Program Overview

This program offers three interactive workshop courses that equip Zero Waste Ambassadors with the knowledge and practical skills to minimize waste throughout the community and support others in doing the same. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities and action planning, participants will leave ready to implement and promote zero waste living.

Zero Waste Ambassadors must complete all required sessions, field trips, and volunteer service hours to receive a Zero Waste Ambassador Certificate of Completion. Please see detailed descriptions below for each course.

Courses

Expert Composter

Join this course if you want to learn how to be an Expert Composter in Flagstaff! You will learn the basic science of composting, why and how it helps our community, and how you can make a positive impact through composting efforts in your community. Please review the “Requirements” section below before registering for this course.

  • Wednesday, June 18th (12pm - 1:30pm) at Willow Bend Environmental Education Center [703 E Sawmill Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86001]

Zero Waste 101

Learn the basics of zero waste and how to apply it in your community and personal life through learning activities and volunteering.

Advanced Zero Waste

Take the Zero Waste 101 coursework to a new level! We'll review Zero Waste 101 basics, provide you with community and business zero-waste toolkits, and assist you in creating a zero waste plan for your needs.

Requirements

  • Anyone is welcome to join! Recommended for ages 16+ (ages 16-18 must be accompanied by a guardian).

  • Attend all three of the in-person courses.

  • Complete 10 hours of required volunteer service related to your zero-waste coursework.

Framework

Each cohort will follow a similar structure that is customized to the specific cohort topic. Each cohort will consist of a minimum of three sessions running for approximately 1.5 hours. The three sessions will consist of:

  1. Networking with your cohort and Flagstaff community groups

  2. Learning through powerpoint presentations, hands-on activities, group exercises and discussion

  3. In-person courses held at differing locations based on the course session focus
