Expert Composter

Certification

The Expert Composter Certification is a series of informational sessions and workshops designed to give Flagstaff residents the skills they need to become effective composting educators and advocates within their communities.

Registration is now closed for the 2023 Expert Composter Certification series.

Stay tuned for a registration link when the series opens for a new cohort! All workshops are free, we just ask that all participants volunteer for 10 or more hours to support our composting operations around Flagstaff.

Why become an expert composter?

Becoming an expert composter will give participants the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge they can share with the broader community. After certification, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences through local outreach, participation in public events, and guided activities at local schools and community gardens.

  • Gain the skills to build and maintain a home composting system that can serve you and your community.

  • Take advantage of opportunities to engage with the community about composting.

  • By becoming a compost steward, you will be joining a community of composters

Volunteer Activities

As a part of the Expert Composter Certification, participants will be required to complete 10 hours of approved, compost related volunteering. During these sessions, you will help support compost-related activities at sites around the city.

  • NAU SSLUG Garden: Find volunteer days and times on their Instagram page
